Day 4 of my £10 a week diet journal
This morning I weighed 95.8kg
    
    Scottish fry-up for me this evening. I promise to eat healthier tomorrow, if it doesn´t break the budget.
    
    4 sausages (50p) 500 kcal
    1 lorne (10p*) 100 kcal
    1 black pudding (10p*) 100 kcal
    2 eggs (30p) 200 kcal
    2 potato waffles (12p) 200 kcal
    2 bananas (20p) 200 kcal
    coffee and sundries (10p) 10 kcal
    * items reduced
    
    Spent: £1.42 on the above
    Calories: 1310 kcal
    
    Running total after 4 days: £6.42, 5700 kcal
    Average daily: £1.61, 1425 kcal

That´s true. Unless you can live on low value carbs like white bread, pasta, sugar and potatoes one cannot get enough calories. Meat, even fat, is out of the question unless, like me, you go to a supermarket before closing time and pick up some heavily reduced items that have reached their sell-by date. Interestingly, I´ve learned that £1 buys around 1000 calories. More for lower quality carbs, far less for anything else. Much of what I´m doing would scale up for any family size.
