RIP Philip, Duke of Edinburgh
It was a long time coming, but like all things concerning life, sooner or later it happens. Whilst it´s tempting to say that this is the end of an era, in truth it´s actually just another part of the ending of an era, the inevitable prelude to the day of H.M. The Queen´s passing. This transformation of Britain then moves to a different level. One where there is no more a wider feeling of the British people, but simply a free-for-all of vested interests, misguided and perverted viewpoints. The victim of all this will be tradition and the fabric of society. I´m not philosophically a monarchist, in fact I don´t know how one can be, but there is something else at stake with the Royal Family of this complex and confusing United Kingdom... the clue is in the name of course. Literally without a monarchy there is no "United" Kingdom, there is only a nation without direction and identity. Prince Charles will "reign" over this chaos, and by the time William takes the throne, he will have inherited a different country. I´m not sad for any man who almost reached 100 years, it´s a spendid innings (celebrations were planned in June), but of course I give my condolences to the Queen and the royal family, and can only imagine how she must be feeling. So many native British have never known a world without the Queen and Philip. I´ve said it before, and it seems appropriate to say again, Britain feels ever so slightly different today.
